After years of hard work, Fu Wan gave birth to a sustainable chocolate business model built on revolutionary chocolate production skills and contemporary chocolate culinary culture. Eco-Friendly Farming and Community-Friendly Contracts

Eco-friendly Farming

The eco-friendly farming method is free from chemical fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide. It is healthy for the land, the ecosystem, and the farmers. Furthermore, it makes positive sustainability impacts. Since the end of 2021, Fu Wan has contracted 23 farmers and more than 10 hectares of land for eco-friendly farming.

Guaranteed Pricing

Long-term and predictable income provides great support for medical care and education in rural areas. Fu Wan’s guaranteed price is 3 to 10 times the price of other plantations.

Reasonable Profit

Taking management costs and marginal benefits into consideration, farmers need healthy profits to thrive. Fu Wan's acquisition price for cacao fruit starts at 20 NTD/kg (570-600 EUR/ton), so farmers can have a reasonable margin of at least 25%. We also help farmers sell other products to generate additional income.

Contract Farming

Fu Wan advises farmers on soil testing, fertilizer management, eco-pest control, screening of varieties, etc.

Sustainable Cocoa

Cocoa of Excellence - Best 50

Quality comes with a strong financial incentive. For five consecutive years, cacao purchased by Fu Wan has been rich in taste, with high acidity and sweetness. Fu Wan’s cocoa beans have been selected as one of the 50 best cocoa beans in the world by “Cocoa of Excellence”.

<40km Food Mileage

Reducing the distance from farm to table is the best way to control the quality of foods and products. It is also important to the spirit of SLOW FOOD. Fu Wan purchases all cacao fruits within a 40 kilometer radius. .

Carbon Reduction and Fixation

According to research, the carbon fixation of eco-friendly or organic farming is at least twice that of conventional farming. This is an important asset for farmers and the earth.

Local Ingredients

Unique Soul

Local ingredients are key to not only product differentiation but also to the formation of culinary cultural identity among local customers. Fu Wan utilizes many unique local favorites, such as white champak, shell ginger leaves, lychee, mango, Taiwanese cinnamon leaves, various Taiwanese teas, sakura shrimp etc., to create distinctive chocolate flavors. 71% of Fu Wan’s ingredients come from within an 80 kilometers radius.

Contemporary Chocolate Culinary Culture

FIDARGS Unique Craftsmanship

FIDARGS is a groundbreaking chocolate process developed by Fu Wan Chocolate. It opens up brand-new horizons for the tasting experience, and re-defines the delicacy of chocolate. This is crucial to increasing the value of chocolates to customers. For three consecutive years, the FIDARGS craftsmanship has lead Fu Wan to the most awards won by a single chocolate brand at the International Chocolate Awards world finals.

Food Safety

Safety and hygiene always come first in the food industry. Fu Wan’s factory has been HACCP and ISO22000 certified since its establishment in 2018.

Naturally Processed

When cocoa is processed moderately, with good fermentation, steady drying, without  alkalizing or removal of the butter, its abundant nutrients have a chance to shine. Fu Wan’s 100% chocolate contains a high percentage of polyphenol - 52 times higher than that of apples, and contains zero bacteria, aflatoxin, or ochratoxin.

Whole Fruit Utilization - Zero Waste

Fu Wan completed the development of the whole fruit utilization technique in 2021. With the spirit of cherishing food in mind, Fu Wan creates additional value for what used to be agricultural waste. From by-products including cacao syrup, cacao tea from cacao husk, fermented cacao juice, and vinegar, Fu Wan has devised a series of cacao cuisines which plays an important role in introducing a contemporary chocolate culinary culture to its customers.

Value Acknowledgement

Genuine Consuming Culture

Consumers get to re-define and identify the price versus value ratio after reacquainting themselves with the delicacy, function, and culture of local chocolate. The retail price of Fu Wan Chocolate in Taiwan is equal to or higher than that of international brands in Taiwan, and 50% above that of competing brands on the international market.

Sustainable Business Culture

There is a strong cohesive force among Fu Wan Chocolate employees due to our company culture of sustainability and co-prosperity. 100% of our employees are local, and the annual turnover rate remains under 15%.

Culture Identity

Farm to Table Education

When people appreciate how food travels from farm to table, they start paying attention to cultural identity. Events such as farm to table trips and agri-food education have been flourishing, bringing positive impact to plantation communities and rural areas. Fu Wan puts Pingtung on the chocolate map, and attracts more than 50,000 visitors to its plantations annually.
